The best time to find driftwood is after there has been some stormy weather and the sea washes it up on to the beach. Driftwood is usually very smooth and light coloured as it has been floating around in the sea for a long time. Some pieces are very large, and some are very small. You want to find a mix of medium and small pieces so that you can build something that you can take home with you. If you find four similar size pieces of wood you could make a picture frame, you’ll just need some glue (ask an adult to help you glue it together). Or if you find one larger piece and one small skinny piece you could make a sailing boat and you could use a piece of old newspaper as the sail. Use your imagination and see what you can make!
