Towns, walks and nearby attractions for short breaks
Trevella Park is a great base from which to head off and visit the county’s many fantastic attractions and picturesque towns that make ideal day-trip destinations. Below are just some of our favourite things to see and do on a short break in Cornwall…
Crantock’s superb beach is only a short walk along the Gannel Estuary and is the perfect spot for enjoying the spring or late summer sunshine. Stretch out on the golden sands and let the sound of the waves crashing in from the sea lull you into a relaxing stupor; you won’t be disturbed by crowds of sun worshippers as they prefer to lay down their towels at the busy beaches in nearby Newquay. Crantock is also filled with quaint Cornish cottages, a Norman church and ancient inns.
The South West Coastal Path from Newquay to Perranporth leads to fantastic views from Pentire Point and Iron Age defences still visible at Penhale Point. The start of the walk is just a short stroll from Trevella Park. Follow the wildlife walk from Cubert and you might see basking sharks, dolphins and grey seals at Holywell Bay. The cliff-top walk from Perranporth to St Agnes is brilliant for birdlife and wild flowers and passes hidden beaches and cosy pubs.
The internationally famous Eden Project at Bodelva is a spectacular global garden that tells the story of mankind’s dependence on plants (22 miles away).
The Lost Gardens of Heligan near St Austell is 200 acres of Victorian Productive Gardens, formal Pleasure Gardens and a sub-tropical Jungle, all hidden under impenetrable brambles and gorse until recent times (23 miles).
Minack Theatre is a unique open-air theatre created in the cliff side at Porthcurno, which hosts plays, opera and musicals under the stars (40 miles).
The Tate at St Ives is the home of British Modernism and displays a variety of modern and contemporary art (30 miles).
No short break in Cornwall is complete with visiting at least one of the stunning towns and villages nearby. Our favourites include including Padstow (22 miles), Mevagissey (23 miles), Fowey (26 miles), Port Isaac (27 miles) and Tintagel (35 miles) – which has one of England’s most stunning coastlines and endearing legends – King Arthur.
Short breaks in Cornwall: Anyone for golf?
Golf is another popular reason for people to visit Cornwall on a short break. There are many superb courses in the region, and several close to Trevella Park. These include Newquay Golf Course, which overlooks Fistral Beach; Holywell Bay which is testing yet worth the challenge for the amazing views, and the nine-hole Treloy Golf Course.
