Dear All

It’s May Day tomorrow and as I am sitting writing this the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  Barry and the others are working hard putting the polishing touches to Trevella before the main season.  Chris has agreed to come out of retirement and help us all again in the shop.  Thelma, who likes to try and keep us all organised now has two new ladies to help her in reception as well as our own wonderful Pauline.  And the special Caravan Short Breaks are proving a great success for those who just want to get away for a long weekend!

The cafe has been taken over by a lady called Val, who has loads of enthusiasm and already putting her mark on the room by introducing not only wonderful food but little touches like blue Salt and Pepper pots to match the paintings on the walls!

Tomorrow is Padstow ‘Obby Oss day when the whole community celebrates and families wear red or blue to signify their allegiance to either the red or blue Oss!  The streets are festooned with bunting and flags and the maypole covered in bluebells and cowslips.  It really is a day to enjoy as musicians and singers follow their Osses around the town’s narrow streets.

St Ives also celebrates tomorrow and that ‘fest’ goes on until Monday when it culminates in it’s May day celebrations.  Then on the 8th we have Helston Flora day – who could forget Terry Wogan’s rendition of the song!  People decorate their doorways with beech leaves, bluebells and cowslips and Helstonians dance through the streets dressed as if going to a ball.  Again the atmosphere is fabulous and welcoming to local or visitor alike.  We have tried to put together a list of events for you and Barry has added this as a button to the right of his New Blog.

Yesterday I drove a friend down the coast road to Godrevey, a favourite place of mine where a group of seals, sometimes as many as 80 have made themselves at home.  It is a short walk up from the national Trust Car Park and easy just to sit on the grass and watch them in the tiny bay below. Last week took a picnic out to the fields overlooking Polly Joke Beach on the far side of Crantock and ate crab sandwiches sitting on the grass, listening to the skylarks and overlooking the sea.  The more energetic could be seen strolling along the headland towards Holywell but we were just content to watch!   I am not sure if the fields of poppies will be there this year as they have been ploughed but it’s still a magic place and just a short stroll brings you around and back below the Bowgie Inn above the sands of Crantock Beach.

Anyway I hope you all had a great Easter and that May proves to be a good month for us all,

Take care, Linda
