1st May ‘Obby ‘Oss Day, Padstow
May Day, the world famous ’Obby ’Oss celebration, is on the 1st May. The origin of the Padstow ’Obby ’Oss lies in the mists of antiquity. The celebration of the first day of summer commences at Midnight with unaccompanied singing around the Town. During the day accordians and drums accompany the respective parties around the Town. After the Oss's are stabled until the following year, the musicians and dancers attend some of the inns, finalising the day at midnight around the Maypole. Home.freeuk.com/bribbonobbyoss
2nd – 4th May National Surfing Champs, Watergate Bay, Newquay
One of Europe’s oldest (and with over 300 entrants,largest) surfing competitions, the English Nationals returns to Watergate Bay for an eighth year. Pro surfers will be strutting and preening to win national titles in 24 divisions, which range from the prestigious (Open) to the obscure (Kneeboard, Stand-Up Paddlesurf).
3rd May May Horns Celebrations, Penzance
An annual celebration of the traditions of May Day in Penzance. At 8.00pm on Newlyn Green (Newlyn fisherman's memorial), the Mayers party will proceed from the memorial across the green and towards Penzance led by local musicians and the Montol festivals Turkey Rhubarb band. A master of ceremonies, the Lord and Lady of the May and the May Green Man will lead this informal assembly winding its way through the back streets of Penzance heading towards Chapel Street in the centre of the historic borough. www.penzancemayhorns.co.uk
8th May Helston Furry/Flora Day Helston

22nd – 25th May Run to The Sun 2009, Newquay
One of the largest VW, Custom Car and music events of its kind, held at Trevelgue Holiday Park in glorious Newquay.
23rd – 31st May Fal River Festival
The Fal River Festival, which will run from May 23rd to 30th in 2009, is all about celebrating life on the river Fal in Cornwall.
The 9 day festival encompasses over 130 events which range from music and drama, the arts and heritage to rowing races, triathlons and walks. The festival, which was established in 2006, is celebration of life on the river, a chance to really embrace the places, people, history and culture that are connected by this very Cornish river. www.falriverfestival.co.uk
25th May Launceston Steam and Vintage Rally
This is the 27th event since its inaugural staging at Polson Bridge in 1983. In each year since, the Launceston Steam & Vintage Engine Rally has grown & developed to be more than just ‘a Steam Rally’. 4th-6th June Royal Cornwall Show, Wadebridge
The Royal Cornwall Show is one of the leading agricultural shows in the UK. Staged on the Royal Cornwall Showground, 1 mile West of Wadebridge in North Cornwall, the show covers approximately 100 acres, with a regular attendance of 110,000. 12-13th June Fat Face Night Surf
The Night Surf brings world class surfers under the floodlights alongside the ultimate family friendly beach party. Whilst the pros battle it out on the waves, spectators get live music and a beach barbecue.
13th – 14th June Murdoch Weekend, Redruth
Redruth celebrates its proud heritage in a blaze of colour in June of each year with Murdoch weekend to commemorate William Murdoch the inventor of domestic gas lighting, who lived here in the late 18th century.
27th June Mazey Day, Golowan Festival
Golowan is the ancient Cornish festival of Midsummer, celebrated on the feast of St John the Baptist. Revived in Penzance in the early 1990's it is now a major community arts event. www.golowan.org

17th – 18th July White Stuff Surf Relief Festival, Watergate Bay, Newquay
As beach events go, the White Stuff Surf Relief Day has it all: glorious weather, pro surfing, a host of beach games and activities, and an evening of live music. The event takes place at Watergate Bay Beach with the surf competition, augmented by a host of popular bands. The event will also be a real family day and there will be face painters, circus acts and sandcastle building competitions down on the beach. The event is completely free to visitors.
18th – 19th July Newquay Surf 7’s Rugby Festival 2009, Newquay.
On 18-19th July 2009, Newquay will see a festival of rugby to rival any in Europe. The South West's biggest rugby event is returning for its second year and 2009 will be even better! Two Days of Sevens Rugby with beer tents, food and music. www.newquaysurf7s.co.uk
